Plum Pudding

Plum Pudding is one of the most mouthwatering desserts in the list of Christmas party food. It is very good for the Thanksgiving party also. The plum pudding is usually made for these two occasions. This site is bearing an easy recipe of this delicious sweet dish shown on television in a particular program by Cindy Goldfield. The recipe of plum pudding was shown as an important Christmas item in the episode on Christmas Festivals. This particular type of pudding is known as the traditional Christmas steamed plum pudding enjoyed with hard sauce.

The ingredients to make this plum pudding are:

  • 3/4 cup melted butter
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda

  • 1/2 cup warm milk
  • 1 cup light molasses
  • 1 cup raisins
  • 2 eggs, beaten
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cloves
  • 1 1/2 ounces brandy
  • 1 pint candied mixed fruit (or diced dried fruit such as pineapple, pears, apples, and plums)
  • Holly sprig, for garnish
  • Hard Sauce, recipe follows
Preparation of plum pudding:

You have to combine the molasses, butter, milk, and eggs in a mixing bowl. After that, mix the flour, baking soda, salt, cinnamon, and cloves in a large mixing bowl. Then, add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients in 3 additions. Now you have to toss candied fruit and raisins lightly with flour to prevent sinking and add to batter. Stir in brandy.

Then you have to pour the mixture into a greased and sugared steam pudding mold and place on a rack in a large covered pot with water that comes halfway up the sides of the mold. By covering it, you have to steam it for 2 hours, checking occasionally to make sure water hasn't boiled out. Let it cool for 5 minutes on a rack before turning out. Dust with powdered sugar and serve the plum pudding with a sprig of holly and hard sauce.
